DOUBLE JEOPARDY

DOUBLE JEOPARDY

A week ago, I was jonzing, awful situation, and I told one of my good friends over social media that these days were the worst of all. throughout the previous week I most certainly always woke up hungry,
then just like answers to prayers, I started to get some food, more food so yeah the hunger went down, days later the Holy month of Ramadan and the fasting began, so much that all the hateful and spiteful individuals started being friendly, giving out food, drinks and water to the poor in exchange for the holiness of the month,
A newlywed couple living down my street decided to jump in on the bandwagon, and it was more of the husband's behest that the new bride single-mindedly made a feast in the holy month,
Our neighbourhood liaison and the go-to guy in our community, Black was as religious as the sun shines. One night I asked Black if it was possible that during this month, the holy month that he wouldn't be giving away all the good things in life which for me at that time food in whatever context or dish.
Or maybe he asked me if I don't mind if he did his good deeds for the month on me I answered sceptically; certainly who is more worthy and deserving of his good deeds and his apparent gesture of free will and that I was interested in his freewill offering and making sure he got all the blessings of Ramadan the holy month.
All the while this conversation was ongoing, I sat not along, alongside me was my next-door neighbour "the good doctor" an excellent friend but a very suspicious fellow nonetheless.

The next day, the first day our liaison Black came over to perform his good deeds and achieve his holiness for the day, he came forth with drinks made from the wild's tiger nuts and water from the ice ages and over two litres of what we soon discovered to be beer, His holiness for that day was now complete. For some reason, we felt like the world was a better place, more so now that the month was holy.

There was Nothing holy about my companions, religious was more of an adjective than it was a state of mind, You would be considered sacred at that time if you were kind enough to pass the lighter,  not to brag but on multiple occasions, the revered Sainthood was bestowed upon me for rolling up a joint with uncanny finesse and perfect sense of geometry.

The good doctor always eager to declare me a national treasure, but he no excellent nor holy. So after a month of the constant supply of adequate liqueur and only God knows how many sticks of Rothmas Switch Tobacco.
He was simultaneously Sainted and declared a national treasure for his utter dedications to our ways of life, he was later known as the moralist of our little community.

When I say "we" I don't mean just me myself, I also speak about the other companion, the jester and for some reason that I rather not say the jester had his queen, he was the only analogous being on the plant at the time of these happenings of the holy month.

Black was not about to miss out on the amount of collectable holiness, the holy month had to give to the faithful. So much that he came earlier than the first day and did his good deeds, he hit his joint and got on his way, he now had joy and happiness plus all the holiness the world had to offer.

The newlyweds finally decided to hitchhike the bandwagon of giving away and receiving holiness, the husband so eager to prove his prominence and by all means, announce his arrival once again.
Instructing the new bride(his precious cargo) in a way that only an unsuspecting man would. Just because the month was holy a feast for the collection of holiness was planned for our little community.

Only if he understood the well-spoken Hausa adage "Da banzan Rarwa, ga'ra ba Tashi ba" it was too late by the time he understood these sayings. The feast was prepared, and Black was in charge of discharging these bowls that would announce the arrival of the newlyweds.
It was just a matter of time before the feast would reach our shores, and on this day, Black performed his good deeds, not only his but that of the newlyweds.
I saw BLACK climb the staircase with a bowl that shies of 9inches by a few centimetres, it was only the second time I would ever come across such a sight in my life.

The first time was four years ago, people say we remember things for the impact they have on our lives, sometimes these impacts might be traumatic to start with,
In a stainless steel 9inch bowl where two well-shaped balls, at first sight, it was good-looking it was a feast, after all, the balls were submerged and drowning in a soup I dare not mention, Black told I would be shocked at how great a cook the new bride was,

Honestly am not putting myself out there like a food specialist or whatnot. Still, after a lengthy period of longsuffering, I believed that my life had sunk to the bottom of the abyss.
Four years ago I rejected such a feast, but this was during the holy month now, who am I to refuse the free will of the newlyweds seeking holiness.

So after a systematic dissolution of whatever one would call it, I told my companion the doctor, that suspicious fellow that I hoped the husband sees what his bride is capable of and for God's sake is this the best food money can buy? I sha hope that she fucks better than she cooks.

Double Jeopardy is when she can't do better with either.

The good doctor, that suspicious fellow stopped me short and told me that I was an ingrate, but how can a man who is neither good nor holy say such things, Ungratefulness would have been my refusal to accept the food,
But in my defence, I did receive the food, and I even struggled to eat it, to help the newlyweds announce the arrival and collect as much holiness as possible, Nothing prohibits me from speaking the truth or lashing out because of the horrors I went through eating that food. WEY NO EVEN GET MEAT INSIDE...

Nose cells fix knee cartilage in human trial
Building on the fact that this experiment as already worked in goats, and for the first time the experiment is venturing into uncharted waters, At the University of Basel for the first time researchers have taken the cells, called chondrocytes, from the noses of 10 patients with damaged knee joints and grown them into cartilage grafts and then these repair grafts were implanted surgically into the patient’s knee joints.
Nine patients have seen improvements in knee function, quality of life and reduction in the amount of pain, MRI scans showed that the grafts looked like normal hyaline cartilage, These repair patches were then surgically implanted into the patients' knee joints. The hard-to-replicate material that coats the tip of bones but more tests need to be made to determine if the technique is truly ready for prime time.

Trouble around Mars and Jupiter
And in another epic twist The Mars lander, for those of you who don’t know is “Schiaparelli”, ESA’s (European Space Agency) new Space craft that was supposed to land on the Planet Mars, Communications cut out just a few moments before the spacecraft was supposed to make a gentle, parachute-assisted propulsive landing, and now nobody knows for sure what happened. It’s very likely that the parachute deployed too early, which would completely change the descent trajectory.

Not to think that NASA which you should know, does not have its own problem with their own spacecraft “Juno” orbiter is having trouble with its propulsion system. Mission scientists don’t really know why yet, but it’s enough of a problem that they delayed Juno’s next orbital burn by 53 days: one circuit around Jupiter. Hopefully that will be enough time to diagnose and solve whatever wrong. If it is, Juno will perform a “period reduction maneuver” to shorten and tighten its orbit down to 14 days. In the meantime, Juno will get another chance to fix all its senses on Jupiter. Its next close approach will be on December 11.

Possible Effect of Genetic Engineering.

Genetic engineering, DNA researches and their application has created a suitable platform for diving in the human race. Recent successes specifically DNA researches which include the rebranding of our crops making them suitable and more sufficient for human consumption; creation of a very important hormone which happens to be a glucose regulator (insulin) within genetically remodeled cells for their effective growth and energy use(insulin production is genetically engineered via DNA modification in bacteria and it function by acting like a key allowing cells to utilize glucose), and lastly the sequential arrangement in one favourable order of the complete set of genes in a living organism, has surely made living quite easier and more comfortable
You need to imagine the massive advancement in making living easier, if the complete set of genes in a living organism can be falsified and designed personally to suit the desire of oneself. Of course, living would be made easier and more comfortable   even though genetic advancement comes with some risks. (Repeated use of the word easier and more comfortable, I will prefer another synonym than falsify)
The fabrication of all human DNA present in human chromosome otherwise known as the Human germline modification or editing, in my view has more benefits. To mention some reasons why I think so, gene modification holds great promise for treating and even curing a variety of genetic diseases, for example, sickle cell, taysachs, etc. by a simple slice and replace in DNA specific sections of DNA which allows Scientist to make very precise changes like the copy and paste feature in a word processing software. It will be possible to repair a defective gene in a sperm or egg cell, or in an embryo in order to avoid significant sufferings and premature death. As technological innovations improve these gene editing tools which are presently refined in laboratories around the world today. It would lead to easier, cheaper and more accurate insertion and deletion of gene than ever before, as it promotes Scientific research.( the more the advancement in medical technology the higher the cost of services)
Parents will have the ability to choose the traits of their offspring thereby deliberately designing them to be better in almost all aspects. This knowledge will also allow for reproduction, that is, creating genetically modified people and so on. These benefits hold a great future for us, if its risks are not properly addressed it will instead widen and exacerbate existing gaps in health and welfare rather than close them. This knowledge among others promises the treatment for a variety  of genetic  diseases, then by definition editing of these genes simply changes the gene embryo produced within vitro-fertilization not of an already diagnosed   patient : During this process, it is possible that new diseases e.g. cancer could inadvertently be introduced into the human gene pool which can be passed down to future generations due to off-target effects which influence the function of the many genes leading to long changes in the genome but I feel, if this is done in a single sperm or egg cell at embryo level it could lower the risks of mutations by a million–fold and possibly greatly improve both the safety and effectiveness of the procedure. I know one may say, what of a case whereby unwanted edits(off-target) eventually occur.
Gang Bao (PhD in bio-engineering) in one of his articles thought of the CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technique as a Nano scissors. He said putting some of these Nano scissors into a cell and they will make cuts near the gene defects you want alter but the risks here are that, the Nano scissors can also cut other genes in somewhat unpredictable fashion. This could change the function of a gene keeping a cell from becoming cancerous or cause other diseases. This is really true but what if we could study the cell and trace outlines which the Nano scissors will follow and cut according to these thereby, not cutting other genes in an unpredictable way? Since these Nano scissors will cut according to these traced lines, the gene segment to be edited can easily be replaced.
Secondly in an attempt to possibly repair a defective gene in a sperm or egg or an embryo that’s just a few days, this may inadvertently result in miscarriage maternal injuries and still-births. Some also fear having babies that may seem healthy at birth but later in life may develop serious health problems due to purported enhancement causing parents great loss,
However, it is yet easier and safer to perform such operation at embryonic level, though, this may mean a fifty-fifty chance; that means, it is either successful or not, just as that of a Siamese twins. So parents who decide should be fully aware or this. Anyway, it is always asserted “No guts no glory” so it should still be given a try. Regular checkups should be carried out within intervals of at most a week or so. In an instance whereby an abnormality is observed, an operation can quickly be carried out to correct the problem, in order to prevent the child growing up only to develop health problems. Though at this present time such experiments should be done on animals with similar problems and closely related species with man and I believe with determination something can be done. After all, he who wills the end wills the means.
Thirdly, these tools can fail and when they do, many fear that it will cause a great problem especially when a gene is currently being edited. We all know very well that no can be 100% perfect, since by simply heating up, it loses energy. If we take a look at the present civilized world today, the cars, phones, airplanes and the lightbulbs we use among others, wouldn’t have been available today if scientists of blessed memory only cared about the fact that it could fail rather than being consistent. Gardens are not made in one day or by sitting in the shade. Technological Application should give hope for a better tomorrow, not just as avenues for people to wish for its failure. Besides, these tools are now refined in laboratories around the world. I would like to suggest that countries can come into agreement to partake in healthy competitions on topics such as “the design and manufacture of the best gene editing tool” with a grand award and I bet, no country would like to come last.
Fourthly, for parents who would like to choose the traits of their offspring, this is certainly a breakthrough. Perhaps the only risks if considered one at all,
lies in the fact that parents would have a great deal more control over their off-springs by preselecting their traits to suit their preferences. Arguably, Children would become more commodities than precious gifts and since it is impossible to perfectly satisfy the desires of a man heart, the child may grow up not looking exactly as the parents had pictured him/her to be. All these could lead to inequality and injustice since only the rich could afford such facilities.
In order to manage or minimize, care of these risks, I feel   parents who believe it is necessary to choose the character traits of their offspring should have a cogent reason. Not just because they feel like or have the resources for doing so but perhaps for reasons such as they want they want their child to be blonde because for years no offspring has had it and they both want him/her unique.
Lastly, this knowledge which could possibly allow for the creation of genetically modified people could lead to unsafe human experimentation, distort family and other relationships. It could lead to inequality and biological discrimination as humans will now be as biological perfectible artifacts. We can thus affirm that Scientific inquiry and its contributions to human wellbeing yet understand that, not that can be done, should be done. As a universe we have to understand clearly the reason for our actions before we decide to undergo them.  Besides, at this present time we ought to learn to walk before we decide to run. The benefits certainly outweigh the risks but as the old adage affirms “all the glitters is not gold”, though the glittery part holds promising benefits, nevertheless the other side which are the risks if not carefully managed it could outweigh the benefits leading to unimaginable dangers, thus the word for these ventures is cautions and moderation for all purpose in all the facts of human endeavors
